I have been known to “rename” a few close friends, family members and even students—I don’t think anyone minded!🫶🏻

Years ago, I was working as a tool maker, for a machine manufacturer. Seemed everyone in the place had a nickname. Shop workers, office staff, and management. Later, working in technical sales for a precision equipment company, not a nickname in the place. Both were German companies, so no idea why.

I think that nicknames might have been a “badge of belonging” and a sign of affection back in the day. Gary’s sister’s nickname was Pookie and I still have to remember to call her by her real name when we are in Silver Sneakers class together!!!

Well, that reminded me off the little girl that lived behind us, Snookie. I remember getting stuck in a tree in her back yard, her dad had to help me get down. I wonder where she is now?
